Prescription Drugs

                                         Contributed by Bruce Timpany

For more than seven years, researchers followed 34,727 people who filled prescriptions for anti-anxiety medications like Valium and Xanax, or sleep aids like Ambien, Sonata and Lunesta, comparing them with 69,418 controls who did not. After adjusting for a wide variety of factors, the researchers found that people who took the drugs had more than double the risk of death. The study appears online in BMJ. The researchers tried to account for the use of other prescribed drugs, age, smoking, alcohol use, socioeconomic status, and other health and behavioral characteristics. Most important, the investigators also controlled for sleep disorders, anxiety disorders and other psychiatric illnesses, all of which are risk factors for mortality. The lead author, Dr. Scott Weich, a professor of psychiatry at the University of Warwick, said that while he and his colleagues were careful to account for as many potential risks as possible, they were not able to control for the severity of the illnesses suffered by the study participants. Still, he said, the research “adds to an accumulating body of evidence that these drugs are dangerous.” He added: “I prescribe these drugs, and they are difficult to come off. The less time you spend on them the better.

True Health Care

As we are approaching yet another deadline for signing up, I'd like to take a moment to remind everyone of one important fact.  We have a Creator who promised to keep us healthy if we live by His Word.

And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of YHWH thy G-d, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am YHWH Raphah [your healer.]  Exodus 15:26

Now I realize some of us are just coming into that knowledge and have already done considerable damage in disobedience.  I have good news, The Good News.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:  And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.  James 5:14-15

More promise in writing.  Even if we've not been obedient in the past, we can be forgiven!

Containment Plans Continue . . .

I realize the ACLU is not always popular in what it represents, but this is interesting information that may affect many of us, especially now that detention without charges is officially part of America's rule of law, since the USA Patriot Act.

In my effort to avoid political blame, please let me remind you that both parties have agreed to this and continue to expand the power over the people.

Something to Consider

Ever wonder just how in bed drug companies are with your doctor? This picture depicts one doctor who saved all of the drug company pens he received from reps who often took him to concerts, out to dinner, and sent him gifts -- all in an effort to get YOU on their latest pharmaceutical.

How is This Health Care?

I am quite open regarding my complete distrust in pharmaceutical based health care and my refusal to place my faith in insurance.  It's not as much that I'm against these things, it's just that I believe our Creator has created everything we need for remedies and I don't consider faith and insurance to be compatible.  I realize there are laws in place that require minimum insurance or penalty.  I understand the price.

I found this information startling, as medicaid in many states is now a "loan" to be collected from one's estate, yet the processing of the forms is leaving many without coverage at the time they "need" it.
